Don't waste your time calling them unless you have thousands of dollars to dish out before they will even ask for the facts about the case. They could care less about people's well-being. It's all about the money for them. I have NEVER talked to a more arrangement person in my life. I understand requiring a retainer up front but demanding payment in full for what he thinks it will cost. The case is being dropped asap but he didn't want to hear that. They are the reason people having such a negative attitude about attorneys. Too bad he told me all the money or no help. He could have cared less about the defendant and their well being. I would have had no problem paying a retainer for a case that is going to be dropped, so easy money for them. But their response just proves that it's ALL about the money and doesn't matter about the case or how easy it would be to take care of. I pray that my spouse doesn't do anything drastic before the public defenders office helps next week. That will be blood on their hands but after talking to him. He won't lose a second of sleep over it. I will pray for his sole

Response from owner

Today is the Friday before the New Year's weekend. I think our firm is about the only law office open this week in Polk County and I was willing to get started on the case today. This included filing the motion he was seeking on behalf the person accused by noon and trying to get it set for hearing asap. We discussed the case at length and the fee quoted was the same fee we charge everyone for the type of case he was calling about. I offered to reduce my initial retainer significantly and put him on a payment plan. He wanted me to work for nothing (seriously...not a dime) with a promise that he would pay me when he could. An attorney has to file a Notice of Appearance with the court before they begin working on a case. Once that Notice of Appearance is filed, we become the attorney of record and have obligations to appear in court, conduct discovery, file motions, meet with the client, etc...whether we are paid or not. I was born and raised in Polk County and I am proud to work here. We take our jobs seriously and charge rates that are very fair. However, no person will stay in business long working for free.
